Our test drive meme is open to everyone, so please stop by for a little fun and see if you’d enjoy playing with us. The TDM primarily takes place in Gildenhirst, the main hub city for Bravely Borrows. The surrounding area of Caldisla is free game though! Please explore the setting as you desire.

  LET'S PLAY DRESS UP

A big part of Bravely Borrows is getting your very own job class! While all characters start the game as a Freelancer and receive a random job asterisk later on, for the sake of testing you may choose from the following job classes to mess around with:

Red MageMonkKnightPerformerRanger ★ and Freelancer of course
If you desire these threads to be canon, an asterisk was simply loaned to them.
Please return it at your earliest convenience.

  NEED A QUEST?

If you need some direction on how to begin, why not gaze upon some sample quests? Go on a journey. Fuck around and find out. They are completely optional– write whatever prompts you want!

Eggs Aplenty
Oh no. Oh dear. There has been a horrible series of mistakes surrounding ChantiLilly’s egg delivery. For one thing, it was delivered to the Central Market on the Ground Floor! For another thing, there are far too many eggs here. Dozens upon dozens upon dozens of eggs. The bakery’s Patissiere would be grateful if you could help bring these eggs up to his bakery in Rooftop Gardens. You’ll get some gold and some fresh eggs for your troubles.

This Bunny’s Buggin Me
A farmer from Norende is going batty over the swarm of bunnies that have been getting into his fields. Help a fella out, won’t ya? They are swarming en masse and ruining the spring start ups! Don’t expect to be able to herd them out without a fight though– these rabbies really pack a punch! They’re also carnivorous so…. Watch out?

A Rock and a Hard Place
An avid collector is searching for some new specimens. They’ve heard there are some expansive cave systems in the Norende Heights that just might be the perfect spot to collect some geodes. The only problem is that they’re an eensy teensy bit full of kobolds. You’ll be compensated for your troubles if you’d go collect some rocks, and every actual geode will get an extra reward. Please don’t fall off the cliffs…! The paths are narrow and harrowing at times. Good luck!

Have an excellent time, friends!
Thanks for stopping by ♥

Very important for your health.

Just like potions! Never fear though, it wouldn't be long at all. This bag was immaculately organized with a pocket just for these sort of things. The purple spray bottle that Blue plucked out of it probably wasn't the expectation a local would have had, but here it was. Blue held it up super seriously, moving to get all up in the knight's (?) business.

"These have worked for me in a pinch," she was muttering as she got closer to frown at the state of things. "Uh, this might sting."

Spritz spritz spritz.

Local or not, that definitely was not the expectation Kel had for the word potion. Or for any other word she knew, actually. What. What was this mysterious object. Where was she?

Fascinated, Kel watched silently, without so much as a wince as the potion was applied. "I don't need to take the bandage off?" she ventured after a moment.
travelingbelle: (Looking over there)

[personal profile] travelingbelle 2023-03-21 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
That was a good point. Blue chewed her lip thoughtfully for a moment. "Normally I'd spray it on before the bandage," she said as she voiced her thoughts out loud, "but I don't wanna risk making it worse." Ripping the wound back open in the process seemed like a pretty strong possibility here.

Spritzspritzspritz.

"If I can saturate it, I think it should still be enough to get you to a clinic." It was just a regular potion after all, so it wasn't going to be performing a ton of miracles here.

[personal profile] ordealwithit 2023-03-22 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
An understandable concern, especially if one accounted for all the loose threads undoubtedly embedded in her wound from that terrible bandage--sorry to whoever was gonna have to deal with that hahaha. Really, Kel had asked mostly out of curiosity, not to quibble. She was perfectly willing to accept this explanation.

"I'm sorry for the trouble," she said after watching that wild spritzing action for another moment or two. "I didn't expect to end up so far from a healer when I went into that fight." Not that it would have changed anything, really.
travelingbelle: (oh that's interesting)

[personal profile] travelingbelle 2023-03-22 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's how it usually is, huh," she remarked gently. "Sometimes a Pokemon Center can be too out of the way to even get to after a fight. It can be a real problem, so I'm happy if this can help a little bit."

Some of those words did not make sense.

"Was it a fight here...?"

[personal profile] ordealwithit 2023-03-23 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah hang on a minute there.

"I'd say that depends on where 'here' is," Kel said, finally giving up all pretenses of worrying about giving herself away in enemy territory, because uh, "Sorry--what... kind of center, again?"

Is Pokemon like. The local religion, wherever this is.
travelingbelle: (Flustered laugh)

[personal profile] travelingbelle 2023-03-23 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
Blue blinked a few times at her before she let out a flustered little laugh. "Oh-- Pokemon. Sorry," she said as she sat back on her heels a bit. She'd used the potion up so all there was to do now was wait for it to take effect. "I'm so used to them being everywhere, I keep forgetting no one knows what I'm talking about."

Well, there were at least a few that knew. It was still a very strange experience though. They were such a unifying factor back home that coming to a place that had never heard of them was a huge culture shock.

"They're creatures that are really common where I'm from." Understatement of the century right there. "They can do all sorts of things and people make all kinds of partnerships with them."

[personal profile] ordealwithit 2023-03-23 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Kel was quiet for a good moment, turning over all of that information and trying to figure out what to make of any of it. She was starting to feel more like herself, but the strangeness of everything had her wondering if she wasn't still loopy from blood loss. Finally, she ventured, "We call those animals where I'm from."

This was apparently a dialect issue.
travelingbelle: (His girth is this big)

[personal profile] travelingbelle 2023-03-23 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
This was a logical conclusion.

"Ah, we have animals too. A lot of pokemon resemble them." Reaching for her waist, Blue plucked up a small, red and white ball from her belt with practiced ease. Holding it up, she continued, "Pokemon is short for pocket monsters. They're very good at getting really, really small."

With a click of the button on front, the little ball got a little bit bigger in Blue's hand and she gave it a toss. There was a small flash of light, and all of a sudden there was a large spiky creature standing curiously next to them. That sure was a three foot tall something that had come out of that teeny ball!

"This is Acacia, my Sandslash." The knight got a curious wave from one of those big claws. Hi.
ordealwithit: (82)

[personal profile] ordealwithit 2023-03-25 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Well then. Of all the wild things Kel had seen in her life, that sure was one of them.

She had to blink a few times, eyes wide as she looked Acacia over. Monster seemed like a rude word to use here, especially with that polite little greeting, but Kel would keep that to herself. After a moment, she remembered her manners in full.

"... Hello." There was a small lift of her hand in return. And then, since Acacia had been introduced. "I'm Kel."
travelingbelle: (I really like that)

[personal profile] travelingbelle 2023-04-01 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
You were fine, Kel. Blue had just called her a pocket monster herself just a minute ago. Monsters were monsters, they just weren't all monstrous.

Blue grinned at this exchange of little waves, giving the Sandslash an affectionate scratch behind the ear. "And I'm Blue! It's nice to meet you." Even if it was a meeting with a fair amount of blood involved. Not the worst kind of bloody introduction, Blue supposed.

"Um... oh, right. A pokemon center is a medical center for these kinda guys." A commodity that Blue was pretty sure did not exist here. She was going to have to figure out what to do about that before they got too deep into any adventures. "We're usually exploring pretty far away from 'em, so I've usually got a whole potion shop in my bag."
ordealwithit: (8)

[personal profile] ordealwithit 2023-04-01 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
That was the thing! She wasn't sure why Acacia was being called a monster! Kel's education on the fantastical creatures in her own world had been very insistent about not doing that, at least not as a blanket term. How strange to hear it used so cheerfully now. Where is this girl from, where people are named after colors and have such robust health care for their not-animals?

"That's good thinking, if you're not traveling with a healer." Kel sighed, her mind straying to the one she was supposed to have returned to by now. He must be a wreck by now--but she'd fret over that when she knew the way back to him. For now-- "I will replace that potion for you. There's somewhere in town I can buy them?"
travelingbelle: (Thank you)

[personal profile] travelingbelle 2023-04-01 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
A whole healer... Blue tried to imagine this, only coming up with images of Chanseys and Blisseys trailing after people. Take these eggs for trying times.

"Ah... yes, I've seen a few I'm pretty sure," she went on as Acacia shuffled around to keep watch on the area around them. There were a lot of smells going on that were making her nose go on a twitching spree, but Blue was still carrying on with this conversation so. Watchdog was go.

"You don't have to worry though. I'd really rather you pay it forward or something. Getting you to the medic is good enough for me."
ordealwithit: (7)

[personal profile] ordealwithit 2023-04-02 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Kel sighed. She was clearly dealing with a Good Person here, so arguing wasn't likely to get her far--she'd just have to hope for a chance to repay her in some other way. "I hope I'm not taking you too far off from your own course. You didn't come into the woods looking for bloody strangers to tend."
travelingbelle: (this will be fun)

[personal profile] travelingbelle 2023-04-02 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry, Kel. In some universes, she was a Protagonist.

Blue gave a quick little wave of her hand. "Oh, it's fine. Going off course is what I do best." Usually she just picked a direction and went off to see where it lead her. "I think this worked out pretty well. Has the pain lessened at all?"

Even if it couldn't do miracles, Blue hoped it was at least enough to help make getting Kel to her feet easier.
ordealwithit: (18)

[personal profile] ordealwithit 2023-04-02 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
There was a pause, Kel's face going blank for a moment as she assessed herself. "Some. I think I'll be fine as long as it doesn't open up again." Pushing herself a little more upright, she started the slow clamber to her feet, bracing a hand against the tree. "I'm just a little creaky now."
travelingbelle: (Glasses make me a cutie)

[personal profile] travelingbelle 2023-04-02 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
Kel had a very attentive audience of two watching her get up, one curious and one keen on making sure there was no toppling here. A little teetering was fine, that was probably to be expected. Satisfied with how this was going, Blue hopped back up to her feet as well.

"Creaky is better than leaky~" A very astute observation there. Hoisting her bag up over her shoulder, Blue turned to point back through the trees. "The town is a bit of a ways this way. You can lean on me as much as you need."
ordealwithit: (66)

[personal profile] ordealwithit 2023-04-02 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Another pause, and then Kel snorted, a smile tugging at her mouth. "It's fine," she said, reaching for her glaive. "I got this far leaning on just this, and one of us ought to be clean." Besides, she'd have to stoop down to lean on Blue, as would be clear now that she was on her feet. Hello from the towering heights of 5'11. "As long as I don't try anything flashy, I think the leaking should stay under control."
travelingbelle: (Flustered laugh)

[personal profile] travelingbelle 2023-04-02 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
Hm. Yes. That certainly was a height. Well, at least Blue's shoulders could make a comfortable arm rest with that eight inch difference. Blue was squinting a little with this realization, lifting her hand a bit as if a height comparison even needed to be made.

Ah well. Blue let out a little laugh. "I'll make sure it's a very boring walk then." It was at least going to be a slow and steady one.
ordealwithit: (82)

[personal profile] ordealwithit 2023-04-02 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
It's okay Blue, make your height comparisons, Kel wouldn't comment on it. Shorties were extremely valid.

"Is there reason to expect it not to be boring?" Kel's first few steps were all about making she actually had her footing and testing her weight on the glaive, but then she was ready to cast a look around as they set out. "I had a quiet enough walk out, but I don't know the area."
travelingbelle: (Looking up at you)

[personal profile] travelingbelle 2023-04-03 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Acacia had scurried ahead to keep an eye on things ahead of them as Blue kept an eye on Kel, walking her way backwards for a bit. "It was pretty fine on our way here," Blue agreed with a nod of her head. "But they say the mountain can sometimes have... ko... kobos? Eh. Some pesky guys."
ordealwithit: (34)

[personal profile] ordealwithit 2023-04-03 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
"Kobos..." Kel searched her memory for a moment, but then shook her head. Yet another new thing to think about. "Immortals? Or are they normal wildlife?" Though, it sounded like Blue might not even know that much in theory, whether she'd seen any or not.
travelingbelle: (Did you say something?)

[personal profile] travelingbelle 2023-04-06 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Kobolds. There were currently too many other monsters in Blue's brain.

"I think they're regular fellas," Blue surmised. "People probably woulda made a bigger to-do about them if they were legendary or anything." That's where 'immortals' had taken Blue's thoughts, but that sure was an interesting thing to suggest right off the bat. "Are immortal things common where you're from?" Was? She? Immortal?
ordealwithit: (58)

[personal profile] ordealwithit 2023-04-06 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Immortal things--that definitely sounded like Blue didn't even know what Kel was referring to, even if "legendary" wasn't exactly wrong here.

"Well, I'm from Tortall," she eyed Blue sidelong, wondering if that would spark any recognition, "and we did get hit the hardest with them, so they're becoming more common now, as they reproduce. So how dangerous are these kobos, then, do you know?"
travelingbelle: (What am I staring at)

[personal profile] travelingbelle 2023-04-07 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
There was no recognition here. Blue had already established in her own mind that she and Kel were from different places, even if she wasn't sure if Tortall was a place in this world or not. Not knowing what a Pokemon was just cemented that pretty solidly. Immortals being common and reproducing was also... a thing... Her brows furrowed with that information.

"That sounds pretty bad?" Like an infestation of bugs. She really, really hoped they weren't bugs. "I haven't encountered any myself yet. What I've heard from some townspeople is that they are more annoying than goblins, but are only a big problem if they are in a group.
