Welcome to Gildenhirst, friends! It's a TEST DRIVE MEME!!
Premise, Location and more information on the Main Menu.
Our test drive meme is open to everyone, so please stop by for a little fun and see if you’d enjoy playing with us. The TDM primarily takes place in Gildenhirst, the main hub city for Bravely Borrows. The surrounding area of Caldisla is free game though! Please explore the setting as you desire.
LET'S PLAY DRESS UP
A big part of Bravely Borrows is getting your very own job class! While all characters start the game as a Freelancer and receive a random job asterisk later on, for the sake of testing you may choose from the following job classes to mess around with:
Red Mage ★ Monk ★ Knight ★ Performer ★ Ranger ★ and Freelancer of course If you desire these threads to be canon, an asterisk was simply loaned to them. Please return it at your earliest convenience.
NEED A QUEST?
If you need some direction on how to begin, why not gaze upon some sample quests? Go on a journey. Fuck around and find out. They are completely optional– write whatever prompts you want!
Eggs Aplenty
Oh no. Oh dear. There has been a horrible series of mistakes surrounding ChantiLilly’s egg delivery. For one thing, it was delivered to the Central Market on the Ground Floor! For another thing, there are far too many eggs here. Dozens upon dozens upon dozens of eggs. The bakery’s Patissiere would be grateful if you could help bring these eggs up to his bakery in Rooftop Gardens. You’ll get some gold and some fresh eggs for your troubles.
This Bunny’s Buggin Me
A farmer from Norende is going batty over the swarm of bunnies that have been getting into his fields. Help a fella out, won’t ya? They are swarming en masse and ruining the spring start ups! Don’t expect to be able to herd them out without a fight though– these rabbies really pack a punch! They’re also carnivorous so…. Watch out?
A Rock and a Hard Place
An avid collector is searching for some new specimens. They’ve heard there are some expansive cave systems in the Norende Heights that just might be the perfect spot to collect some geodes. The only problem is that they’re an eensy teensy bit full of kobolds. You’ll be compensated for your troubles if you’d go collect some rocks, and every actual geode will get an extra reward. Please don’t fall off the cliffs…! The paths are narrow and harrowing at times. Good luck!
Have an excellent time, friends!
Thanks for stopping by ♥
[ Kel was on her knees just a bit back, keeping closer to the wall as she rearranged the rocks in her bag. Nobody needs sharp points digging into their back on a mountain hike. ]
You hadn't heard of this place before either, then?
Utterly unfamiliar, I'm afraid. This world is...not completely dissimilar to where I originally came from, but certainly different enough that I can safely say I've never seen it before.
Ardyn. It's a pleasure. [He shook her hand with a cheerful smile.] I'm glad you seem to be taking the situation in stride; it can be quite the adjustment to make, for obvious reasons.
I've had a few days now. [ She says it in that same mild tone; no need to get into how very Not in stride she took her actual arrival. ] But I'm not sure I know how you do adjust. I guess a person gets more worldly with experience.
Hm...well, I suppose that the crucial foundation is simply not to panic. To accept things as they transpire, and reach out to those left equally as out of their depth.
That much I can handle, I think. [ The first two for sure. We'll just have to see about the third. For now, she was going to change tacks, with a gesture to that rock pile nestled in his arm. ] But are you going to be able to handle that on the way down? Or were you going to set up a secret cache of rocks up here?
Oh- [Suddenly realizing he was still carrying a bunch of rocks, Ardyn looked around before remembering there was, in fact, a completely forgotten bag hanging off his shoulder.] Right, of course.
[just going to. carefully start offloading that mess of rocks then. One might get the impression he occasionally had one or several screws just a little bit loose.]
A little foolish of me--I'm not quite used to needing to carry things normally.
Oh--you know, I didn't even stop to consider this world might have horses. What an exciting prospect, I understand they've somewhat fallen out of use back at home.
[do you ever just wake up and find out horses went extinct? ardyn has!]
I can't say that I know with any real certainty. Chocobos are able to cover a wider variety of terrain than horses, so that alone may be a factor. It's also quite possible that horses simply became that much more scarce over time, unfortunate though it is.
Of course I've seen horses. [Adjusting the now rock-filled bag on his shoulder, Ardyn chuckled like that was a silly question, because it was to SOME people.] Not recently, mind you, but I used to be a fairly practiced rider.
[ Oh, thank goodness--though maybe that just makes it sadder, since he knows what he's missing out on now. ]
It must have happened quickly, then. [ He doesn't even look that old? Younger than her father, Kel guesses. ] Or while you were away in that other world of yours?
[ Oh, was it that alarming? He'd brought up the different worlds thing himself earlier, though. Strange, but Kel hadn't meant to pry, and she isn't going to push too hard now either. She only blinks, gives Ardyn a brief sidelong look, and goes on thoughtfully. ]
I've been led to understand that time passes differently between the different realms. [ Maybe he'd simply been unsure he was allowed to mention that? Perhaps it would be reassuring that she already knows. ] I can only hope for that to work in my favor here.
That's kind. [ Kel is not personally willing to give up her worries, but she'll give him a smile. ] The most sensible thing is to focus on the detour while we're on it, I suppose.
[ The better to figure out what exactly she was sent here to do. ]

no subject
You have that many worlds to compare?
no subject
Oh--no, no, just two. Finding myself in a new and unfamiliar realm is something I've done only once before. [you know, normal things]
no subject
Kel only raises an eyebrow. ]
Two seems reasonable enough. That's the maximum I've heard of anyone knowing, anyway.
no subject
That makes this my third, so I do wonder what that says about me.
[...at least he's in good spirits about it]
Forgive me--I don't recall that I got your name?
no subject
[ Swiftly pulling her bag over her shoulder, Kel stands to offer a hand, and an easy smile. ]
And this would only be the second realm so far for me--whatever that says about me.

It's too bad this trail isn't fit for horses, if we had them.
[ That's what he meant right. ]
no subject
[Eccentric was certainly a word for it.]
Oh--you know, I didn't even stop to consider this world might have horses. What an exciting prospect, I understand they've somewhat fallen out of use back at home.
[do you ever just wake up and find out horses went extinct? ardyn has!]
no subject
Fallen out of use? ... Horses?
[ Incomprehensible. ]
no subject
Unthinkable, isn't it?
[finally someone gets it]
Apparently they've been largely replaced with chocobos--that is to say, large bipedal birds--or more commonly, machinery.
no subject
That is unthinkable. [ She's honestly horrified! ] Did the horse population dwindle, or are the birds that much cheaper to keep?
[ She wasn't ready to figure out what he meant by machinery here. ]
no subject
I can't say that I know with any real certainty. Chocobos are able to cover a wider variety of terrain than horses, so that alone may be a factor. It's also quite possible that horses simply became that much more scarce over time, unfortunate though it is.
no subject
I wouldn't mind meeting a chocobo, I think, but not for a world without horses. Do you mean to say you've never even seen one?
[ Tragic, had he even truly lived, etc ]
no subject
Of course I've seen horses. [Adjusting the now rock-filled bag on his shoulder, Ardyn chuckled like that was a silly question, because it was to SOME people.] Not recently, mind you, but I used to be a fairly practiced rider.

[Briefly, there was a look on Ardyn's face like he was very aware he had made a critical error.]
I-...something like that. I was away for...a while.
no subject
I've been led to understand that time passes differently between the different realms. [ Maybe he'd simply been unsure he was allowed to mention that? Perhaps it would be reassuring that she already knows. ] I can only hope for that to work in my favor here.

[Yeah, let's go with that.] Oh--I wouldn't worry too much. I'm sure that things will work out just fine for you.
