LET'S PLAY DRESS UP
A big part of Bravely Borrows is getting your very own job class! While all characters start the game as a Freelancer and receive a random job asterisk later on, for the sake of testing you may choose from the following job classes to mess around with:
Red Mage ★ Monk ★ Knight ★ Performer ★ Ranger ★ and Freelancer of course If you desire these threads to be canon, an asterisk was simply loaned to them. Please return it at your earliest convenience.
NEED A QUEST?
If you need some direction on how to begin, why not gaze upon some sample quests? Go on a journey. Fuck around and find out. They are completely optional– write whatever prompts you want!
Eggs Aplenty
Oh no. Oh dear. There has been a horrible series of mistakes surrounding ChantiLilly’s egg delivery. For one thing, it was delivered to the Central Market on the Ground Floor! For another thing, there are far too many eggs here. Dozens upon dozens upon dozens of eggs. The bakery’s Patissiere would be grateful if you could help bring these eggs up to his bakery in Rooftop Gardens. You’ll get some gold and some fresh eggs for your troubles.
This Bunny’s Buggin Me
A farmer from Norende is going batty over the swarm of bunnies that have been getting into his fields. Help a fella out, won’t ya? They are swarming en masse and ruining the spring start ups! Don’t expect to be able to herd them out without a fight though– these rabbies really pack a punch! They’re also carnivorous so…. Watch out?
A Rock and a Hard Place
An avid collector is searching for some new specimens. They’ve heard there are some expansive cave systems in the Norende Heights that just might be the perfect spot to collect some geodes. The only problem is that they’re an eensy teensy bit full of kobolds. You’ll be compensated for your troubles if you’d go collect some rocks, and every actual geode will get an extra reward. Please don’t fall off the cliffs…! The paths are narrow and harrowing at times. Good luck!
Have an excellent time, friends!
Thanks for stopping by ♥
It's good that one of them knew what to look for in a fish. Kai wouldn't have had a clue beyond 'is this smelly.' One of the fishmongers took notice of Kyoko's careful inspection and took to cheerfully boasting, You've got a good eye! You'll only find fresher if you go catch 'em yourself!
"I mean that sounds promising," Kai said as he looked over the fish Shinji was gesturing at. "How many do you think Pen Pen would need for now?" Assuming they passed the inspection. Kai gave Kyoko a short glance, waiting for her verdict.
Alas, if only Shinji had been a little better at fishing when he tried it in Havenwell, that 'catch 'em yourself!' might be a viable option. Well, at least they can keep these fishermen in business, that's probably for the best.
"Three should be good for a meal, he's probably hungrier than normal right now though." Nobody got dinner last night, after all!
Well if they were here long enough, maybe they'd all get to take a second swing at learning fishing. Turn catching dinner into a whole date, gosh. What a good thought future Kai would have, perhaps.
Present Kai was not that forward thinking at the moment, just nodding along with the both of them. "Mm, I bet. Alright then, we'll take three of those little guys. Can you wrap them?"
They'd had a little preview of the fishing date potential in Shoremere, it was surely only a matter of time until the dream could be fully realized here. They would just have to manage until then.
Not yet having a grasp of what was expensive here, Kyoko set aside any thoughts of haggling--the price their new fisher friend laid down didn't make too much of a dent in her purse, and it was probably for the best to be agreeable at the start anyway. They might not know how long they would be here, but it surely couldn't hurt to have good rapport with the local fishermen!
With Pen Pen's breakfast paid for and packaged and safely in her hands, Kyoko looked over at the boys again. "I guess... we won't be too popular if we wait around with these, huh."
Many things to potentially consider later, for now, they have secured the most important bounty of all with a clear "Thank you" given, which means they can focus on the next steps.
"Probably not," who will want to give them advice or help while they stand around with slowly warming fish? That's not going to be pleasant for anybody. How about this - Kyoko seems like she'd be the best to pass the map off to, how about they trade? He holds it over to her as he offers, "Let me take those. I can see that he gets fed and come right back."
Or they could just all turn and start heading back towards the road they had come by, if Kai still conveniently had anyone's hands in his. It was time to cross that bridge, but there wasn't any reason to not cross it together. You could still do this fish exchange though, go ahead.
"I know we wanted to multitask, but we can just all go," Kai said. "I think we'd all feel better about it."
Thank you Kai for facing the matter head-on, you are truly the bravest of them all. Kyoko would manage a nod, her hand curling in Kaito's, cheeks flushed. She was probably being silly, but here they were. "I would feel better about it."
Please do not go where she can't see you just yet, Shinji.
You two... they were trying to be efficient about their time, weren't they? It's not like it's a long trip, or even a perilous one if the walk here was any indication. It shouldn't be a big deal!
But... his heart isn't in any of those arguments. 'I'll be fine,' sits on his tongue for a moment, but he relents with it unspoken. "All right," he answers quietly. He's not going to argue after that small confession from Kyoko, he can't bring himself to leave the two of them upset over something so low-stakes. Most importantly, "I... would, too, so... that's a good plan."
"Thanks," Kai murmured as he turned a soft look on Shinji. "I'm sure it would have been fine, but... Me too. I feel better about it too." Confirmed across the board that this was the best for everyone. They were all perfectly capable of being on their own, but it was fine. They really didn't need to be apart just yet.
"Let's go feed the little guy," he went on, giving everyone's hand a warm squeeze. Hang in there, Pen Pen. They'd be there in a jiffy.
Think of it this way: how efficient would it be if they were unable to accomplish anything while Shinji was on his penguin-feeding trip because they were too stressed out about waiting for him to come back? It was a real possibility! At least for Kyoko!
Meeting Shinji's eyes for a moment, Kyoko gave him a bashful "thank you" before meekly setting out, her hand tucked safely in Kaito's. Let's all turn around then and trudge back to the inn. Please don't be too surprised to see them again so soon, nice receptionist.
He has faith that the two of them can stay on task through something as minor as his brief absence! But perhaps this truly is for the best. It truly isn't a far walk, and Shinji will quietly stick as close to Kai's side as he can on the trip back.
Please don't mind them, receptionist! And don't mind the fact that they've brought back something extra, it's probably nothing! Squirreling their new cargo into their room is a simple matter, and once the door's open, Shinji softly calls out, "Pen Pen," to get the penguin's attention.
An, oh.
Attention is got.
First they are met with an inquisitive little quack at the bird peeks his head up from where he's settled, but then. the smell. it reaches him. and he hurries up and toward them with a loud squawk. That! Is for him! Give!!
"Pen Peeeen!" Kyoko sank to her knees as the bird descended upon them. Was she crying a little bit. She might be crying a little bit. Don't worry about it. Let's just unwrap those fish, here you go buddy. "We're sorryyyy... you waited so long and you were so good...!" Surely he would have been within his rights to go on a penguin rampage while they were gone, but look at how intact their room still was. Truly, a saint.
Yes! He is good and the best! The worst he did was poke around and perhaps chase after Bug for a while! So he deserves those goodies!!
One of the fish is selected and gobbled down with no haste, and as it is, Shinji kneels down right by Kyoko so that he can give that poor little guy a careful pat on the head. "We're sorry," he echoes quietly. "We didn't think it would be like this."
To that, Pen Pen gives them all a brief, almost pointed look, before going in for a second fish. Don't let this happen again. Homf.
The look would pierce all their souls. Kai crouched down with the group with an apologetic chuckle, reaching out to scoop up the renegade orange that was coming to see what all the fuss was about. "Next door we find to go through, we'll make sure to have some extra stuff. Maybe this place has canning figured out or somethin'."
A direct shot to her heart. Kyoko slumped forward a bit with a sigh. "We really were foolhardy enough to travel without so much as packing a lunch... what a hard lesson. We'll take better care of you from now on, Pen Pen."
How could they do such a thing to him, truly they are monsters. Perhaps a slow pet down the penguin's back will make up for their transgressions, though it seems the bird's attention is still being taken up by the fish in front of him. A moment of pause is given before he polishes that third one off, at least, and he takes that moment to give an appreciative little squawk.
"We won't make that mistake again," he agrees with a tiny sigh of his own. As long as they have a say in when they leave, they'll make sure to pack lunch for everyone first!
Kai had figured the worst case after they'd gotten their money and paperwork was that they'd have to invest in some conbini fish for the little guy. He'd been pretty confident in that, man. "Yeah," Kai agreed as he rubbed a little spot between Bug's eyes. Thanks for being such an enigma, little guy.
"Until then, we just gotta treat you extra like a prince. Maybe there's even a fishing spot we could take you to."
Kyoko nodded vigorously. "We can't be too far from water, if they're able to bring such fresh fish to market without even refrigerated trucks, right?" Because she was pretty sure this was not a refrigerated truck kind of place. It felt very possible that it wasn't even a refrigeration kind of place. "That'd be nice, right, Pen Pen?"
That had been Shinji's guess as well - if there's fresh fish, there's gotta be some place to catch them close by.
"If we're lucky, we could probably find a nice place for you to swim around in, even." The suggestion is met with an inquisitive little tilt of the head from Pen Pen - that could be nice, right? It might not be as nice as hanging out at a hot spring, but that's better than being confined to soaking in a bath tub. They'll have to investigate, if it looks like they'll be here for a while.
"We'll get it all scoped out." Maybe it'd be ideal for a leisurely day of fishing and letting their bird friend swim swam around. That'd definitely be nice.
"It might be a while 'till we get back today, but we'll have more food for you for sure. You'll keep an eye on Bug, right?" Down the orange went, already rolling out of Kai's hands to come bump into the penguin's space. Hi Hi hello hello.
"Keep each other company until then, okay?" Kyoko brushed a finger over Bug's peel (?) and then gave the penguin a gentle pat as well, before pushing herself to her feet with a small sigh. "All right! Let's go find some money and the answers to our questions for real now! If only for these two!"
Hello, orange friend, are you ready to get amicably rolled around the room now that your companion is filled with fish and affection? Propped up by promises of luxury? Because you're gettin' rolled, buddy. This is how you keep an eye on a Bug. Enjoy.
Up with all of them, then, now that their critters are all in good shape again. "Should we go ahead and pool the rest of our money together right now?" That way no one has to fret over who pays for what, if they end up needing anything while they're out.
There they went. Kai watched them for a moment, a warm smile playing with his mouth as the pair went about the room. With that back to form, things felt a bit more normal again.
Kai turned that warmth back on the two of them and nodded, already fishing that pouch back up. "Yeah, let's do that."

"That's right!" Kai said brightly at the bird. "They're for you!"
