Welcome to Gildenhirst, friends! It's a TEST DRIVE MEME!!
Premise, Location and more information on the Main Menu.
Our test drive meme is open to everyone, so please stop by for a little fun and see if you’d enjoy playing with us. The TDM primarily takes place in Gildenhirst, the main hub city for Bravely Borrows. The surrounding area of Caldisla is free game though! Please explore the setting as you desire.
LET'S PLAY DRESS UP
A big part of Bravely Borrows is getting your very own job class! While all characters start the game as a Freelancer and receive a random job asterisk later on, for the sake of testing you may choose from the following job classes to mess around with:
Red Mage ★ Monk ★ Knight ★ Performer ★ Ranger ★ and Freelancer of course If you desire these threads to be canon, an asterisk was simply loaned to them. Please return it at your earliest convenience.
NEED A QUEST?
If you need some direction on how to begin, why not gaze upon some sample quests? Go on a journey. Fuck around and find out. They are completely optional– write whatever prompts you want!
Eggs Aplenty
Oh no. Oh dear. There has been a horrible series of mistakes surrounding ChantiLilly’s egg delivery. For one thing, it was delivered to the Central Market on the Ground Floor! For another thing, there are far too many eggs here. Dozens upon dozens upon dozens of eggs. The bakery’s Patissiere would be grateful if you could help bring these eggs up to his bakery in Rooftop Gardens. You’ll get some gold and some fresh eggs for your troubles.
This Bunny’s Buggin Me
A farmer from Norende is going batty over the swarm of bunnies that have been getting into his fields. Help a fella out, won’t ya? They are swarming en masse and ruining the spring start ups! Don’t expect to be able to herd them out without a fight though– these rabbies really pack a punch! They’re also carnivorous so…. Watch out?
A Rock and a Hard Place
An avid collector is searching for some new specimens. They’ve heard there are some expansive cave systems in the Norende Heights that just might be the perfect spot to collect some geodes. The only problem is that they’re an eensy teensy bit full of kobolds. You’ll be compensated for your troubles if you’d go collect some rocks, and every actual geode will get an extra reward. Please don’t fall off the cliffs…! The paths are narrow and harrowing at times. Good luck!
Have an excellent time, friends!
Thanks for stopping by ♥
[Job change; What's fantasy for a kid operating mecha?]
[ Hayate's never been the one to take the time to learn about other cultures before, especially when he was on his own wandering around the galaxy. It wasn't until he joined the Delta Flight and learned more about Ranga that he realized he should take more mind to learn about other cultures.
Not that he knew exactly how to go about that. What he was good at was picking up different jobs. What better than to try out the job asterisks?
When you run into him wherever, he’s trying out different jobs...
Whether he’s trying to fling a sword around or trying to conjure magic, pick your choice! He’ll be failing at it because he’s neither a martial artist or magic user, he’s a pilot, and any jobs he took on used robots, not swords or magic. He came from a world where the only magical thing was the power of singing, so conjuring elements out of nowhere was very foreign to him.
Plus, even when said VF units he piloted also included bladed weapons, he barely used them if at all. ]
How the heck do you use this??
[ Regardless of how things go, Hayate's going to eventually settle with being Freelancer... ]
[Bnuuies]
[ Hayate sure thought the bunnies were more tame like mercats, just without him sneezing everywhere and definitely thought it’d be a piece of cake because they’re kinda adorable, but as soon as he saw them open their mouths and fight back— ]
Mercats were assholes, but what the hell, man!
[ Hayate’s a pilot, not a fighter! He’s going to get overwhelmed by the rabbies real quick. ] Shit!
[ Man. Buddy. Pal. What the heck were you doing with that sword.
When given the opportunity to try out what the local folks called "jobs," Kel had reflexively shied away from taking the Knight--it was too strange to her still, to think of knighthood as something that could be granted with a little gem and easily discarded--but you know what. If this was what it looked like when an inexperienced person had new weapons and skills suddenly thrust into his hands, maybe she should just get over it next time.
For now, she wasn't going to let the restrictions of the Monk class she was currently trying on keep her from helping this poor lad. Surely he could only improve from here. ]
That depends on what you mean to do with it. [ She'd just been finishing up a set of push ups, so Kel wiped the sweat from her brow, then wiped her hands on her strange new skirt, and came over with a hand extended and a small smile. ] May I?
[ To be honest, Hayate himself doesn't know. Don't you just swing it around like a bat and hope for a homerun? ]
Knights I know sure don't feel so freakin' slow like this! [ Well, figuratively. The Windermerean Aerial Knights sure flew around with agile and force, not like snails.
Hayate blinks at hand and pauses for a moment before handing the sword over. ]
[ Ah yes, the thrill of swinging a weapon with wild abandon. Kel remembers it well. You know, from childhood. Her smile doesn't exactly grow, but an extra glint comes into her eyes as she takes the sword. ]
I do--well, I should know how, though I'm told these job things can have an effect on our skills, whether we had them before or not. [ Is it her imagination that the blade doesn't feel quite as natural in her hand as it used to? Everything is so strange here. Still, she remembers how the form ought to be, and sidles in to show him her grip on the hilt. ] You'll do things quickly in a fight, but take it slowly when you practice.
Is that how it's supposed to work? Even with that asterisk thing on, it doesn't feel right.
[ Hayate's not sure how to describe it.
It's not falling in the right place. Maybe it's the fighting style that isn't meshing with Hayate's personality in general. Even as pilot, he never operated the machines in a traditional sense... Breakdancing during combat encounter made it easier for him to fight.
He wishes he had some good music going on so that he could put his mind more to practice. ]
Dunno man, is there something that has... a beat or something? I'm not much of a singer, but having beats make it easier for me to get into the groove.
[ What an astonishing person. If Kel had ever thought to ask for music to fight to, she would have been laughed out of the practice courts for life, but this man--surely not even all that much younger than she is--says it as if it were the most natural thing in the world. Incredible.
She's not sure how to handle that yet, so she settles for the simpler question he's left her with. ]
A what, and you operate a what?
didn't think of an actual canon point for this loser, whoops
[ One can say his foundation or even roots can be flimsy at best, but at least he goes head on with what he believes. ]
A fighter jet! Well, only started learning how. I know the basics of operating mechas since I've used them a lot in different jobs I've held while traveling around the galaxy, but flying the skies on a jet's something else.
[ Oh, wait... This place isn't the same as the world he's from, was it?. He gives an awkward laugh when he stops. ]
Ahh, sorry. A fighter jet's a machine that lets you fly at high speeds. I guess it's also meant for fighting enemies... I'm no mechanic so I dunno how else to explain.
[ Hayate does his best trying to explain it while he scratches the back of his head. He's experienced different cultures before but not where no advanced technology exists, so Hayate's not sure if he can explain it clearly. ]
[ He's trying, but Kel can only stare blankly at him as he goes on. Gosh. Where to begin. ]
A... flying machine?
[ The thought of riding in something like that makes her stomach lurch, but she's perfectly ready to believe it can be done. She shakes her head a little. ]
I thought knowing what you did before would give me some idea of how to help you, but I've only gotten lost myself. Sorry.
Yep, a flying machine! Feels great being up there with the wind. [ While he's saying that Hayate raises a hand up towards the sky, mimicking an airplane flying across it. He looks back at the other when he hears her speak again and gives a smile. ]
You don't gotta apologize, thanks for trying though. Anyways, I don't think being a Knight really suits me.
[ At least not for Hayate even before finding his own purpose in life. If it were after the entire war he experiences, he may be better suited in terms of protecting someone. ]
I can't imagine what would suit you. [ Kel frowns--that sounded rude. She hadn't meant it in a bad way. ] But then, I've never been the imaginative sort. It seems there's a great variety of these jobs, so you may only need to keep searching. If you do find one of your flying machines here, I'd like to see it.
[ does freyja even have her windermerean strength again? who knows. one thing's for sure is that she knows better how to respond to direct combat, even if she didn't like it.
she had a staff with her, having testing out the mage job option a little after her arrival. the bunnies quickly fly away from the staff's impact. freyja's defensive position quickly melts away once she turns around to see... her boyfriend. ]
Hayate?! It really is ya!!
oh shit, time for cr disaster bc this idiot is early canon
[ Hayate's barely had any combat experience prior to the run-in with Freyja and the Walküre, and even with that he only did half-decently because of the mecha that was laying around at the time.
Plus, all Freelancer does for him at the moment is to Examine the enemy.
He sure wasn't expecting a familiar voice call out to him in the midst of the bunny attack— ] !? Freyja?! The hell happened to the Walküre audition?!?
tmw ur dating someone but the other person doesnt know it
[ she can't help the bafflement in her voice. time feels different when god the protoculture designed you living less than 30 years... the audition felt like a whole lifetime ago to her, not the mention the amount of experience she went through since.
that doesn't even go to the five months as one of vaero's plaything. ]
What're you talkin' about, wasn't that...
[ quite instantly, she realizes that explaining hayate that she wasn't even in ragna for five months would be even more confusing. ]
Almost a year ago or so?
[ they met in march, but she can't quite remember when the kingdom of the wind pulled back on their declaration of war. it's hard to really think about it since there's still more bunnies attacking them, and all freyja would do them is just bat them away with her staff whenever they get too close. ]
A year!? We just got— [ Okay this is gonna be Some Talk to do while combatting the rabbies from destroying the poor farmer's fields. ] —Aurgh, forget it for now, just help getting these rabbits off of the fields!!
[ He's just gonna be whacking away with a stick with a kick here and there to get the rabbies to herd them away.
Also can't wait to have them talk about Dating!!1!1 ]
she brings her hand to her chest as her rune starts to glow. a familiar ribbon of pink particles start to dance around her the moment she starts to sing. ]
Even if I break the laws of the cosmos Let me dance until I die... Ah!
Ride on... 3 2 1!
[ despite her panic earlier on, the wave emitting from her voice is stable, far more than how it was back in al-shahal. there's a layer of complexity in her voice that only appeared after a year's worth hardship.
the bunnies gradually stop terrorizing the farm, their ears peark up as they put their focus on freyja's singing. ]
[ Just as the rabbies get distracted with Freyja's singing Hayate does too, pausing to look over at the other to listen to the voice.
Has her singing been so full like this the last time he heard it? He's not even sure how to pinpoint the difference since the only time he's heard her sing was in the middle of the Var attack. The words she said earlier, of being a year ago goes through his mind... ]
[ ...But that thought gets shoved to the side as a smile forms on his face. Regardless of whatever the difference is, it's got a good feel to it.
So she's been able to pass the audition after all, huh?
He seizes the brief moment of distraction as he starts shoving the rabbies out of the way from the field, occasionally going into a movement closest to dancing. ]
