Eggs Aplenty
Oh no. Oh dear. There has been a horrible series of mistakes surrounding ChantiLilly’s egg delivery. For one thing, it was delivered to the Central Market on the Ground Floor! For another thing, there are far too many eggs here. Dozens upon dozens upon dozens of eggs. The bakery’s Patissiere would be grateful if you could help bring these eggs up to his bakery in Rooftop Gardens. You’ll get some gold and some fresh eggs for your troubles.
This Bunny’s Buggin Me
A farmer from Norende is going batty over the swarm of bunnies that have been getting into his fields. Help a fella out, won’t ya? They are swarming en masse and ruining the spring start ups! Don’t expect to be able to herd them out without a fight though– these rabbies really pack a punch! They’re also carnivorous so…. Watch out?
A Rock and a Hard Place
An avid collector is searching for some new specimens. They’ve heard there are some expansive cave systems in the Norende Heights that just might be the perfect spot to collect some geodes. The only problem is that they’re an eensy teensy bit full of kobolds. You’ll be compensated for your troubles if you’d go collect some rocks, and every actual geode will get an extra reward. Please don’t fall off the cliffs…! The paths are narrow and harrowing at times. Good luck!

Phones would be so useful... Havenwell had a least given them some way to communicate, but here? Hm. Shinji's fairly sure the phone Kai had given him before they left is still in the hotel room, but it wouldn't do them any good if he's the only one with something. And he sees that bit of worry cross Kyoko's expression... Ultimately, he doesn't want to leave Kai alone, and he wouldn't want to leave Kyoko alone, either. Ah. A conundrum.
"I should probably run breakfast to him," he offers. Wouldn't that make the most sense? Leave the two who are more comfortable with approaching strangers to the job of info gathering? Surely either of them would be equally capable of navigating if armed with the map. "Then we could all meet back here afterward?"
"Yeah," Kai had murmured after Kyoko. Some form of communication would have been really helpful to have. The mysterious starter money they'd received was real nice, but something other than stationary to go with it would have probably been better.
It was Kyoko's turn to get a hand sneaking through her hair for a ruffle. Kai didn't want to let anyone out of his sight either, to be clear. He was fast though, and it was a straight shot back to the inn. It'd be real hard to lose them with such neat and tidy destinations.
He was about to say as much when Shinji made his offer and Kai paused with a slight frown. The idea of sprinting back to the inn had seemed alright when he'd pictured Kyoko and Shinji would be together and could hold hands! The idea of Shinji running off on his own felt Not Great! Which... was silly. Shinji was perfectly capable. It wasn't like there were giant worms ravaging this city. Surely he wasn't going to immediately end up somewhere else, right. Right???
"It's your call," he acquiesced, that little frown softening back into a small grin. "It's just a straight shot, and we can pester people around here."
Hey now. It wasn't like Shinji being out of her line of vision would feel any better than Kaito. This wasn't a simple situation where they could just swap each other out! Nobody was allowed to be where she couldn't see them!!
Except that was very obviously unsustainable and ridiculous. Kyoko worried her lip some more as she quietly accepted her hair ruffle. "We haven't even bought the fish yet," she said after a moment, as if she could put off the inevitable by pointing out all the tasks that would come before it. "No one needs to run anywhere yet."
I'm sure they'll figure it out in some incredibly stupid way.
If only they weren't insistent on making wise use of their time, everyone could simply go all together on every errand. Alas, truly, no matter who stakes out on their own, it's not going to be ideal.
Well, either way, even if Shinji's already made up his mind now that Kai's given his tentative approval, it's true that they have time before any real actions need to be taken. "Yeah..." If they really wanted to be efficient, one of them could simply go and hunt down someone selling fish on their own, but no, he's not going to voice that thought. Nobody would like that. "We'll cross hat bridge when we get to it."
They were just trying to speed up being back together, of course, but there was a solution to them being apart. There was still time to figure out that they'd all feel better if they just all went together. They definitely weren't going to be in Tokyo tomorrow, so they didn't have to be that efficient.
Cramming the last bit of sandwich into his mouth, Kai let out a hearty mmmhmm. Both hands were free now. One hand for each of their heads. Pat pat.
Kyoko buried her face in her own sandwich, as if she could hide how sheepish she was about all this. Jeez. Even if they only ended up needing to stay in this world for a few days, it surely wouldn't be possible for them to stay glued together the whole time. She was being silly!
But! She really didn't wanna be away from either of them yet! A true conundrum. She offered up a very tiny "Sorry..." as she finished up her sandwich.
First thing's first, let's all get those sandwiches eaten up. The sooner they are fed, the sooner they can get on with every other important task on their list. Shinji will keep on munchin' and quietly accept those headpats, but that small apology from Kyoko tugs at his heart. No, don't...
"It's okay," he answers softly, leaning forward to give her as reassuring of a look as he can manage. "We're all just trying to figure things out, and it's... a lot." Of course emotions are going to still be running high after everything, don't apologize for that.
Ah.. no... Kai's chest felt a little tighter, and all he wanted was to lean over and kiss her. He kept a careful hold of that desire though. Emotions weren't running high enough right now that she wouldn't mind, and he didn't want to do that to Shinji either. For now he'd be content with channeling the feeling through his fingers as he shifted the headpats into tender strokes through her hair.
"It's so much," Kai agreed softly. "Don't be sorry. I know I offered to go first, but I don't actually wanna go anywhere without either of you just yet."
No... don't comfort her... she was supposed to be bouncy and upbeat...
Kyoko dipped her head down, cheeks burning. Don't look at her. "Just a little longer," she mumbled. "Just give me a little more time to prepare my heart before one of you goes somewhere else."
He understands. It's not like he wants to be away from them right now, he gets it. All of them, really, are on the same page right now.
"Of course." Don't worry, nobody's going to be running off unexpectedly. "Just... remember that it isn't going to be for very long, even when it does happen."
The comfort was only going to continue. Those careful strokes continued as Kai nodded along.
"We'll be running back home to you as soon as we can." Kai moved his other hand to rest at Shinji's back after a warm pat. That went for him too of course. "Whenever that happens. There's no reason we need to be apart today. We can see if there's a way to stay in contact before we go wandering too far."
Blushing harder under the relentless torrent of all this comfort and reassurance--jeez guys have a little mercy on her--Kyoko mumbles some more. "I know... I know that." She was so stupid and they were so kind. "Maybe someone around here can tell us how to communicate with doves or smoke signals."
Get cared about, Kyoko. But also thank you for the extra assurance directed his way, Kai. He appreciates it.
"Setting up something like that would probably take longer than just meeting back up," she's joking, and he knows she is, but gosh... gosh. What else would such a rustic place use for quick communication anyway? Maybe she's on to something. "Maybe there are carrier pigeons we can rent out."
Kai chuckled a little as he continued his nefarious tirade of comfort. "A carrier pigeon would be pretty cool, actually." Who could resist another friend for their rag tag group of pals.
A passerby caught Kai's eye-- or rather, their hat did. Tall, pointy, and just the correct amount of lopsided with its wide brim. Kai wasn't the fantasy buff here, but even he could hazard a guess about silly hats. A wizard? Was that a wizard?? Was this a wizardy place??? He blinked.
"Or... a magic thing? Maybe they have magic things? I think I just saw a wizard. Did you see?"
I regret to inform you that Kyoko was not joking, Shinji. She would light a fire in the town square, no prob. She would adopt a pigeon SO FAST.
And she absolutely saw that ?wizard? and was already sitting up straighter. "--Yes!! But that makes sense, right? We already knew there were other worldhoppers here, so it only stands to reason that there'd be magical people around!"
Is it an honest to goodness wizard, or is it just quirky fashion? It could honestly go either way, but magic isn't something that Shinji's about to discount being real in this world. There are much stranger things out there in the universe, so why not a wizard.
"They might... have magic things," he murmurs, as if speaking up too loudly and risking being heard by that wizardly passer-by would be Rude, and heaven forbid he be Rude on his first day here. "It wouldn't just be the one person, right?"
More magic! Than just one traveler! That would make plenty of sense. Maybe they communicate by magic? But how? And how would these non-magical kids be able to use something like that? Hm... much to think about.
Kai nodded fervently. It would make perfect sense for there to be more magic people and things here. They'd all met magical people before! Surely there were more here.
"There might even be like... magical shops. It definitely looks like the kind of place that would have magic shops. We'll have to keep our eyes peeled for sure."
Please hold while Kyoko ascends into the heavens. Magic and also shopping! Magic that you can shop for! Just imagine!!
Look at that, she was on her feet now, eyes bright, as if she hadn't just been a vulnerable mess a whole minute ago. "There really might be, huh! Who knows what we might stumble upon! while we're looking for fish!"
Thank goodness there's some hypothetical that can lift her spirits right now...! Take some hope from that possibility, Kyoko, you deserve it.
"There really could be anything around here, huh..." It's not quite with any real vigor, but Shinji goes ahead and polishes off the remainder of his food. Best to not keep that enthusiasm for exploring waiting for too long...!
Yes! Good! Get pumped about it, Kyoko! If they were going to be stranded in magical (?) fantasyland for xx amount of time, might as well take advantage of the magical (?) things at their disposal.
"Who knows!" Kai said, a small laugh in his throat. Ah, he could envision the sparkles surrounding her perfectly. If she could get this excited over magical baubles and bits, they'd definitely be fine. He didn't get up right away, giving Shinji's back some encouraging pats.
Once Shinji seemed good to go, up Kai went. Here were both of his hands, everyone. Please take them. "Let's scope out the perimeter and see what's in store."
This time there was just the smallest pause, Kyoko's eyes straying towards Shinji before they snapped back to the road ahead, before she slipped her hand into Kaito's. There wasn't really any pretending she didn't want him close at this point, after all. It was okay for now, right?
"M-mmhm! We won't know what we can find if we don't go looking!" Let's go then!!
A little worry is normal, probably, and Shinji gives Kyoko a similar quick glance, just to make sure nobody's going to find this too weird. It's fine, though, truly. Here, Kai, you get to have both of their hands in yours while they explore.
If it's just going to be an easy perimeter sweep to start with, they probably don't need to be consulting the map too closely, but Shinji will retrieve it to keep on hand. Just in case. "Let's go." Let's go!! On to hunt for fish and hopefully some answers!
Thank you once again for indulging your greedy boy, you two. Kai's fingers wrapped eagerly around each of theirs'. It felt almost a little silly to feel as relieved as he did that they'd more or less decided they would all go together, but whatever. Efficient ideas weren't always good ones. This one was best, all linked together with one hand on a map and one free to point out the sights. Big jobs for all of them.
Some of the stalls were things one might expect from a market. Produce stalls boasting their fruits and vegetables, a stand full of flowers that Kai took a mental note of, delicate chains and jewels... And a decent amount of not-so-delicate chains from someone selling armor? Those were actual swords over there? Just casually! Behold all of these mystery vials of mystery liquids??? Check out that fat sheep hanging out next to a stall of textiles!!
Yeah, check out that sheep! Kyoko had shown impressive restraint for a few minutes there, but she was definitely fulfilling her job as the pointer now. Look! At that sheep! A real sheep just hanging out right there on the street! Good golly gosh, they sure weren't in robotown anymore, huh!

A sheep! How long has it been since they've seen something like that? Robotown had its own gaggle of critters, but nothing this familiar looking...! Not even Shinji is immune to the allure of looking at all of these wares on display, some so normal and yet so refreshing, on top of all of these unexpected weapons and potions(?!)
"It really does feel like something out of a story," he agrees quietly as he lets his attention wander around. The produce stalls make the prospect of finding fish feel that much more encouraging, and he tears his attention away from these more whimsical offerings to see if he can spot anything further into the market. Hopefully they can get a better look when they're not on a specific mission, possibly even the two of them could browse while he was doing penguin meal duty, but for now, "There's no way they don't have something we can get for Pen Pen."
